Music and Your Child

Attention parents! Did you know that the first few years of your child's life have a critical impact on musical development? These formative years determine whether your child will develop the core skills to excel at music later in life, or whether your child will be forever limited. It's much harder to learn as your child gets older, and past a certain age your child will never learn the fundaments required for the fine co-ordination of an advanced musician.

Music Lessons

For 14 years, Karen has been teaching privately in her own studio to students of all ages and skills. In addition to teaching piano technique, Karen can provide instruction for theory, harmony and history, and assist in the preparation for Royal Conservatory of Music and Associated Board examinations. She regularly hosts "Piano Parties" for her current students and alumni to foster comfort and ease with performing short pieces, and to allow family and friends to observe the continuing progress of the student during the year.

Karen has also spent time over the last three years working for the University of British Columbia School of Music, endeavouring to pass on her love for collaboration, chamber music and art song to university-level performance students.

Should you be interested in instruction for yourself or your child, Karen would be happy to offer you a free consultation. She expects nothing less than personal best-efforts from both herself and her students, and accepts into her studio only those students she is confident will work hard and progress. For this reason, her private studio is small and select.

Selected weekday, weeknight and weekend lesson times are available. Karen has a studio in Central Burnaby (near Patterson and Kingsway) and her main studio in Marpole (67th and between Granville and Oak Streets).
